Kuroshitsuji: Female Shinigamis?

Does anyone know or have a theory why there are no female shinigamis? I am refering to shinigami who actually reap the souls of the dead. The only girl mentioned in the Shinigami Dispatch has a desk job. What gives? Thanks to whoever answers!
